Do you remember a few years ago when precious metal prices shot through the roof? As a jeweler, I'm sure I pay more attention to metal prices than a lot of people, but in 2011 for example, most people probably heard something in the news about the high price of gold.
These days, metal prices have come down a bit. That is great for someone like me, who purchases sterling silver and gold mill products (like sheets and wires) on which to work my jewelry magic. It has also caused an interesting shift with consumers.
Since the raw materials of jewelry are not thought of as the investment they once were, jewelry collectors are also focusing more on the artistry of each piece. I think this is absolutely great news! Why? Because buyers are thinking about jewelry as art. The value of jewelry is not just in the worth of raw materials or stones that make it up, but the vision and creativity of the design.
Jewelers are certainly answering the call. Just look at the amazing looks some of my favorite designers have been coming up with...
Of course these pieces are made up of precious metals and gemstones and those items are valuable, but just look at the creativity that is happening with these designs. Amazing right?
I don’t know about the rest of you, but nothing makes me feel more glamorous on a night out than a special piece of jewelry. A piece that is not only great looking, but unique enough that I'm not going to see lots of other ladies wearing the same thing. Now as much as I would love for those Margery Hirschey earrings (top) to be mine forever and always, like many, my jewelry budget is not quite as big as I would like it to be. Still, there are a lot of designers who make beautiful, unique work, in an price range that is a little more within reach! Here are some of my favorites...
Okay, okay... since you are insisting, I'll add in one of my pieces. I love this petal ring, in 22K Gold and Sterling Silver.
Now go forth and accessorize!!!
Thanks for joining me at the table today!
