I have a confession, I'm not always the most optimistic person. I am a worrier, and I'm not always good at seeing the positive in situations. That said, I'm aware of this tendency and am working on being more positive! One of the ways I do this is by focusing on what I'm grateful for.
About a year and a half ago, I decided to write down three things that I am grateful for before I go to bed every night. I have this lovely little handmade journal that a dear friend gave me years ago, and I keep it on my nightstand. Every night before the lights go out, I write down the date and what I feel grateful for. Sometimes it's the big things, like my health, or my precious nephews. Other times it's little things, like my heated throw blanket, or a relaxing night at home watching Netflix. It makes me feel wonderful to take a moment and appreciate the good things I have in life, no matter how big or small.
So if you are looking for simple daily practice that will lift you up, I really recommend recognizing what you are grateful for. For me, writing it down is really easy to keep up with (it's been a year and a half and I'm still going strong). For you, it may be just thinking of these things over your morning coffee or setting a reminder in your phone for a time of day to slow down and be grateful. Find what works for you, and take some time to enjoy all the good things you have in your life.
