If you don't know this already, I LOVE flowers. This obsession with the petaled beauties started several years ago, and I don't think that one day has gone by when there are not multiple arrangements around my house. Flowers are my thing, and I love this extra little luxury to spruce up a vignette that needs something special.
Although I am a florist, buying flowers for my personal pleasure can be pretty expensive; just ask The Mister. Fortunately, Asheville has a host of flower farms in the area, and most of these places allow people to cut their own flowers. It really cuts costs, and there is nothing better than fresh, local flowers. Here are some of my favorite flower farms around Asheville, North Carolina.
Most of these farms are open for cutting your own flowers in early June, and I suggest going earlier in the morning. If you cut flowers in the heat of the day, they will wilt more easily. Also, there is nothing more peaceful than walking through a mountain form in the early hours when there is still a light fog in the air. I suggest wearing boots or old shoes, but if you really want to get crunchy, you can go barefoot through the flowers gardens.
