So this year I am really trying to focus more on my health and that includes my skin. I have been using Coconut Oil to cleanse my face for several years now and I love it, but I know that there are more things I can be doing to keep my skin dewy and clear. I received some Bentonite Clay for Christmas and I am hooked!
What is Bentonite Clay?
Bentonite Clay is made of volcanic ash found in Fort Benton, Wyoming. What makes the clay so amazing is it's ability to draw out toxins by using a negative ionic charge and binding itself to the toxins to pull them out and be absorbed by the clay. There are two kinds of Bentonite Clay: Sodium Bentonite and Calcium Bentonite. Sodium Bentonite has a much stronger charge and is typically used for detoxing where as Calcium Bentonite is used more for remineralizing the body.
How to make a Detox Face Mask.
There are so many uses for Bentonite Clay, but my favorite is a Detox Mask. This clay is so soft and smooth and fizzes when you add Apple Cider Vinegar. I usually apply it nice and thick and then soak in a tub while it dries. You can even add essential oil to your mask for even more benefits. Read below to make your own.
What you'll need:
- Bentonite Clay (I use this and this)
- Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar
- plastic spoon or wooden Popsicle stick
- Essential Oils (I use Tea Tree, Frankincense, Sweet Orange, and Lavender)
Using a plastic spoon or wooden popsicle stick (you don't want to use a metal uetensil because the clay will absorb the metals from it making it less effective), take a tablespoon of clay and add equal parts ACV and Water until you get a thick paste. Add more clay if its too watery. Add a few drops of essential oil (Tea Tree for acne, Frakinsense for wrinkles and uneven skin tones, Sweet Orange for dull skin, and Lavender to sooth inflamed skin), mix it up, and slap it on really thick. Let it dry and then scrub it off. You will feel your skin pulsate as the toxins are being absorbed, but it will leave your skin soft and well hydrated.
