As you all know, I am obsessed with Wendy Rowe's book, Eat Beautiful, and in the book, she has a whole section dedicated to the kiwi. I love kiwi! Not only is it a cute name for a fruit, but the fruit itself is adorable and full of vitamins and nutrients that help brighten your skin. The kiwi is packed with Vitamin C (even more than oranges!), which is an antioxidant known for collagen production and skin brightening. And according to Wendy, Vitamin C helps with sun damage and pigmentation, as well as, wound healing. That's a lot of power in such a small fruit!
To get these benefits, you can consume a kiwi or two a day. When picking the perfect one, look for kiwi that isn't super firm, but ones that have some give when gentle pressure is applied. They are really good raw with the top cut off and eaten with a teaspoon, or they make excellent toppings for yogurt.
Another way to get all the benefits of the kiwi is by applying it directly to your skin! When I make this scrub, I like to use very ripe kiwi, so that I am maximizing it's skin benefits. I also, mix my scrub with coconut oil for it's antibacterial properties, so it's a two in one skin brightening face cleaning scrub!
What you'll need:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (I recommend organic)
- 1-2 Tablespoons Organic Coconut oil (or olive, almond, grapeseed)
- 2 very ripe Kiwi
Place sugar in a bowl, cut the top off of the kiwi and scoop out the insides into the bowl with the sugar. Mix it up. I used a mortar to mush up the kiwi, but a fork would work too. Add oil of choice one tablespoon at a time until you get the scrub to your desired consistency. Once mixed, scrub your face and feel good about it! Your skin looks better already!
This scrub can be kept in the refrigerator for a week!
