Give Me All the Rattan and Woven Everything

Y'all, I can taste the summer right around the corner!  Even though it is rainy and cold today in Charleston, SC, I know that summer temps will be here by the weekend.  With that being said, I am looking forward to updating some home decor and my closet accessories and I am obsessing over everything rattan and woven!  Did you all see that adorable vintage rattan rocking horse in Zeb's nursery?

It makes since that I would love it.  I like to consider myself as a neutral (and by neutral I mean black with the occasional ivory, blush, or navy) dresser and our home decor is pretty neutral as well, so the natural elements in rattan furniture and woven closet accessories is a perfect fit.  Here are some of my picks for my home/closet refresh!

Home Decor

Mirrors are a super easy and fairly inexpensive way to get into this trend.  These are my current favorites!  L to R: Serena and Lily, $298-$398/ Houzz, $145/ Target, $49.99

I have been looking for a headboard for the bed in our guestroom for years!  I have always loved rattan ones, but always felt they were a little too busy.  These options have very simple lines that will transition well after the trend passes.  L to R: Houzz, $425 (queen)/Pier 1 Imports, $279.95/ Target, $199

Rattan is great, but rattan in color is even better!  If you can't commit to the trend, colored pieces may help make it feel like your not in your grandma's house.  And if you still can't commit, but want to dabble, then opt for a small piece or too like a lamp or place mats! L to R: Target, $69.99/ Grandinroad, on sale $139/ Target, $59.99/ Target, $34.99/ IKEA, $4.99 for 3

For the Closet

Here are some easy pieces to add to your closet to stay on trend.  I am loving Zara's selection of natural woven bags this season.  I bought one a few weeks ago that I love, but I couldn't find it on the site anymore to link it.  How cute is that palm leaf bag? And I think I have to have the woven flats to go with the belt that I already own!  L to R: Anthropologie, $118/ Zara, $45.90/ Zara, $29.90/ Zara, $69.90/ Anthropolgie, $118

Do you like this trend?  Will you be adding pieces to you home or closet? Which are your favorites? Comment below!

New Year, New Projects: Bathroom Renovation Part 1

Well, hello there friends! I know it's been a while.  We tend to take time off to spend with our loved ones during the holidays, but we are back and we have some great things planned for this year!

For starters, the new year brings new projects for my household and we decided to go ahead and renovate the kid/guest bathroom.  My husband is doing all of the renovations himself, so it's a little slow going, but we are saving thousands and it's going to look so much better.

The bathroom was very basic.  Standard bathtub with a three piece surround, standard toilet that always clogs (thanks to our 6 year old), a vanity with very little storage, boring white tile, and a basic mirror and light. Before:

I consulted Pinterest for some inspiration:

Our plan is to replace the bead board with shiplap, take out the tub surround and put in white subway tile, replace the flooring with a white and gray textured large tile, new toilet and tub, new dark blue-gray vanity (with better storage), and a new light and mirror.  Sounds easy right?

Here are some of the products that we have purchased:

Allen + Roth , $79.98

Allen + Roth, $79.98

I cannot wait to show you the final result!  Stay tuned...

Jen Lin Designs

Happy Monday!  I have to admit, I was a little bummed out that our snow melted so quickly yesterday. I could have used a day off after losing that hour of sleep. Does anyone else feel a little thrown off for a few weeks after the clocks spring forward?

Today, my post spotlights a friend of mine who is making the cutest little flour sack dishtowels, towels, and wine wraps. You can order from her on Etsy and create a custom order. Jenny started Jen Lin Designs last year, and she continues to create gorgeous work!

I always struggle when I have to think of a special little gift for someone, and Jenny's creations are perfect for wrapping up a bottle of wine for the hostess, welcoming a baby into a family, commemorating an event, and I am sure any teacher would love a Jen Lyn Design towel on the last day of school (wink, wink.)

I can't wait to use these precious towels around the house! Check out her Instagram  page to see more of her work. Keep your eyes and ears open, because we may be doing a giveaway in the near future!

A Peek Into My Closet

Ever since I laid eyes Carrie Bradshaw's blue walk-in closet, lined with gorgeous gowns and rows of Manolos, I have dreamt of having an organizational clothing oasis of my own. When James Lynn Builders sat down with me to design the layout of our new addition, I asked them to keep stretching the square footage of what would be the closet area. Sure it made for a smaller bathroom, but it is so nice to have space for all of my shoes, clothes, and accessories.

After checking out different closet units, we decided to do it ourselves. Nate checked out online plans and Youtube videos and figured out how to build all of the shelves by hand. Handy husband? Check.

We decided to keep the shelving a bright white to let the clothing and accessories stand out. To give the closet some contrast we used Target's Devine Color peel and stick wallpaper on the back wall.

Have a Happy Monday!
